Jantje Beton – Playing together is learning to live together

Children on a Jantje Beton Day Why? That’s why!
Jantje Beton stands up for the chance to play for all children in the Netherlands. When children play, they not only have fun, they also gain all kinds of experiences that benefit their development. This is especially important for those children that are at risk of getting into a tight corner due to their situations. Jantje Beton lends them a hand by preparing them for participation in society through play. This is why Jantje Beton comes up with, finances and organises projects that allow children to play together. Because playing together is learning to live together.

How? That’s how!
Jantje Beton has devoted himself to help children at several levels. For example by making a stand for a law in which is set out how much space local authorities should allocate for play areas. (In the Netherlands the local government is responsible for youth policy). Or by cooperating with other organisations, companies and the government. Jantje Beton also promotes the interests of children and their right to play by making research possible, bringing parties together, participating in networks [link] and stimulating better youth policy.

Every year Jantje Beton supports hundreds of projects [link] for children and youth in the Netherlands, reaching approximately 195.000 children. The diversity of the activities is great, varying from realizing a play area to supporting a holiday camp, from campaigning to save a playground to organising Jantje Beton “Roefel” days during which kids can participate in the world of the grown-ups.

Action? Reaction!
Jantje Beton is an independent organization and receives no subsidy. To realize projects we raise money. Most of the money is raised through the annual Jantje Beton Collection in the spring and the Jantje Beton Lottery in the autumn. Participating schools and organizations can use half the proceeds for the purchase of for example new game materials. Jantje Beton also works together with the business community, which supports Jantje Beton financially, with material or with manpower. The rest of the income of Jantje Beton comes from donations from private individuals and the “Sponsor Loterij” (Dutch lottery that directly and indirectly supports charities and clubs).

Help or need help?
Do you want to lend Jantje Beton a helping hand? As a supporter or sponsor? Or do you think you could play a part as a volunteer for the Jantje Beton Collection for example? Please tell us. Or would Jantje Beton be able to help you instead? Do you need materials or money to equip a petting zoo, a toy library or a holiday activity? Or could you use some help with a campaign for saving a play area? You can turn to Jantje Beton.
